How Drug or Alcohol Addiction Affects Relationships
Addiction is something that can have profound effects on a person’s relationships. Alcohol, in particular, is known for lowering inhibitions and making people act in ways that they would not while sober. Some people can also become more belligerent when they are under the influence of alcohol, which can result in them lashing out at family members or friends.
Friends and family members may also recognise addiction in a person and withdraw to protect themselves. Alternatively, many people who struggle with substance use may also isolate themselves from their friends and family to conceal the extent of their substance use.
